Silver Tower
The Silver Tower is located in Chicago, right next to the famous Willis Tower. It is an urban complex with multiple programs including retail, office, hotel, and residence. The facade design is one of the most important parts. It offers not only an aesthetic experience but also ecological value. The tower has a rainwater harvest system and biofiltration system, and both systems benefit the tower itself as well as the urban area around it by creating a desirable environmental condition.
Role in this project: Research&Design, Plan Arrangement, Renderings, Drawings, and Diagrams.
Module
The facade design is very important in this project. All the perforated panels function as a part of the building's Biofiltration System. They can not only work as sunshades but also purify the air by the cultivated moss inside of the rotating rings. The moss is irrigated by the collected rainwater and it will help to decrease the air pollution emitted from cars or other sources. The moss and the panel also help to keep a suitable temperature inside of the building. Rings in every perforation, where the moss is cultivated, will be kept rotating during the day, so the moss can have plenty of sunshine. The rotation is driven by electromagnetic force so the rings work effectively like a motor.
